Soldiers had Chicken Dinner

Eugene Breen Says the Camp Dix Outfit Certainly Did Full Justice

The following letter has been received from Private Eugene Breen now at Camp Dix:

Camp Dix, N.J.,
June 16, 1918.

Editor Evening Record.
Sir:---Have received the Evening Records up to date and the boys are glad the people back home don't forget sending them Bogart's candy once a week, as the soldier boys like candy. The last week the boys have been drilling a little harder and have had two or three hikes, about five miles to a hike. The boys received their third inoculation last Wednesday and did not mind at all. They took it like veterans.

We had our first inspection of equipment yesterday and the boys are glad they are becoming real soldiers.

The company is quarantined for three weeks on account of measles breaking out in the barracks, but it may be lifted before another week.

The boys received a fine treat today---the captain of our company, Captain Harris, gave special permission to see the New York Giants and the Camp Dix baseball team play ball this afternoon. Of course, the Giants won by the score of 5 to 3, and there were about 10,000 soldiers, friends and relatives watching the game.

The boys send their regards to relatives and friends.

P.S.---On today's menu was a chicken dinner with all trimmings and the boys certainly did justice to those chickens.
